Model Prices Rarity Score

Many people use my site to find rare, out of production models. To help people spot the rare models, I have added rarity scores from 1 to 10 with 1 being the most common models and 10 being the most mythical, rare models.

The rarity score is based (i.e. calculated) mainly on the number of shops having a model for sale over the last three months. If none or very few shops have had the model for sale over the last three month, the model gets a high rarity score. If many shops have had the model for sale, the model gets a low rarity score.

Another factor that affect the rarity score is the number of shops on my site that cover the hobby that the model belongs to. For example, as I write this, I index more model train shops than slot car shops. It therefore takes more shops for a model train model to be considered common than it takes for a slot car model.

Models with high rarity scores get tagged like this:

9.4 Super rare
8.7 Very rare
8 Rare
7 Uncommon

Everything else is just tagged “common” 😅
